August Writing Challenge - Day 15 - Rivers
"As the river chooses course, though the river's proud and strong, he will choose the smoothest course. That's why rivers live so long. They're steady, as the steady beating drum.... What I love most about rivers is you can't step in the same river twice. The water's always changing always flowing. But people I guess can't live like that. We all must pay the price. To be safe we lose our chance of ever knowing..." - Pocahontas, Just Around the Riverbend
The thing about this song - besides the fact that it's in one of the GREATEST Disney movies in LIFE - is that it so eloquently describes both sides to the same entity. I have always loved water and the concept that it can vary from a faucet drop to an entire body of water. I have always loved the thought of rivers, though. I guess it's because they seem so sleek and elegant. Living in Brooklyn and so close to Manhattan, I have had the privilege of being within traveling distance of the East River and the Harlem River. While on the surface, these rivers seem very calm and cool, I know that there is a world of movement beneath.
I know this sounds deep but I am the river. Actually, I'm the opposite of the river. I'm very kooky on the outside, never sitting still and reactant to everything... but on the inside, I'm actually a lot more sure about things than I tend to let on. At the end of the day, I know that my life is in greater hands and I'll end up where I'm supposed to. Sure, things rattle me from time to time, and it takes a minute for me to find my balance. But to have peace that is everlasting, it's worth it.
