August Writing Challenge - Day 4 - Physical
When I think of the word "physical" I think of a lot of things: a trip to the doctor, beauty, and lust. That last one might have been my downfall had I given in to it but thank God He kept me from making some big mistakes! All of the thoughts that came to my mind about the word "physical" had to do with the body. I believe that many of the mistakes people tend to make are because their bodies responded before their brains or their spirits.
When you buy into the mentality that "keeping it real" is the same as acting on the first impulse you experience, you forgo an education on learning patience, discipline, and, quite frankly, the skill to make good decisions. When a person feels angry or disrespected or betrayed, that feeling becomes tangible and prompts your body to do something about it.Have you ever heard someone say they "blacked out" while they beat somebody down or cursed somebody out or slashed somebody's tires? That simply means their sense of reason went dormant and they were working on autopilot. In other words, they were acting on their impulses and physical urges.
This topic has been done to death, but why are there so many single and/or deadbeat parents around? It's because people acted on their physical desires without thinking things through and ended up with a responsibility that is far too great for them to handle.
So, what's the solution? I'll tell you: Think before you do ANYTHING!! And while you think, PRAY. Sometimes the side of your brain that makes right decisions gets overshadowed by the part that feeds directly into your physical urges. So prayer is your backup. If it doesn't sit right in your spirit, you need to make sure your physical being lines up. Sometimes that means sitting on your hands in a corner with your legs crossed. It's trying. It's frustrating. Sometimes it's infuriating. But when all is said and done, you'll feel better about yourself knowing that you were strong enough to wait and make the right decision.
